Australia’s new Immi App streamlines visa applications by allowing users to submit passport and facial biometrics securely through their smartphones, reducing the barriers of in-person visits and processing times.
As the world is going digital, the Australian government has also levelled up by launching the IMMI app that will ease the Australian visa process for applicants
This app is designed to make identity checks faster and more convenient. So now applicants, instead of travelling to biometric collection centres, they can submit the required details from the comfort of their homes.
As specified by Australia's Department of Home Affairs, the app allows users to scan their passport and capture a live facial photo using their smartphone. This information is securely sent to the Department of Home Affairs as part of their visa process.
The app is compatible with both IOS and Android devices, making digital submissions accessible to more people
How to Use The New IMMI App?
Candidates who receive a “Requirement to provide personal identifier” letter can use the IMMI app. This letter contains a visa lodgement number, beginning with AUI or AUH, and applicants must have already provided fingerprint biometrics earlier.
Initially rolled out in Pacific nations such as Fiji and Samoa, the service is now available in 34 countries, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and Thailand. Expanding access has further helped reduce travel time, cut costs, and make visa processing quicker.

How Does the Process Work?
Applicants must scan their passports and confirm that the displayed details are correct. Further, they would need to take a clear facial photo and then submit their information for verification. The app carefully guides users through each step with simple instructions and checks, and once everything is successfully uploaded, there is no need to revisit the biometric centre again.
No Data Security Concerns With the IMMI App
The Department of Home Affairs states that the app does not store any personal data once it has been submitted. If an error occurs, the user will simply be asked to repeat the process to ensure accurate capture.
After submission, updates would usually appear on the applicants in the accounts within 24 hours, and if further details are needed, the department will reach out directly
